With only 16% of registered voters in the first round, Macron is assured of a crushing majority in the Assembly – more than 400 seats out of 577 – which he will used to wage an unprecedented offensive against social and democratic rights. The NPA again denounces the anti-democratic character of this two round uninominal voting system and defends fully proportional voting.
In the second round, to beat the candidates of Macron, the right or the FN, the candidates bent on destroying employment law, social protection and pensions, the candidates of the perpetual state of emergency, the NPA calls for a vote for France Insoumise or the Communist Party where they are present on June 18.
For us it is not about using this vote to “economize on kilometres of demonstrations” or to validate the orientations of these organizations. From now on, the sole effective opposition to this government is that of the street, that of the mobilisations of precarious and unemployed workers for their collective rights, of struggles for democratic rights and liberties against the emergency police state, of fights against the big destructive projects.
That will begin next week with the June 19 demonstrations initiated by the organizations involved in the “Front social” and various other sectorial demonstrations and also on July 8 and 9 at Notre-Dame-des-Landes. This opposition is to be built by everybody together, by uniting our forces, by bringing our struggles together.
