In response to the resistance of the Latinx-American community to this ICE terrorism, the Trump government has mobilized the California National Guard against the protesters, while Peter Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense, has threatened to call in the Marines. Gavin Newsom, California’s governor, and Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles — both Democrats — have publicly opposed the calling in of the National Guard, but they have not called on either the California National Guard or the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) to refuse to cooperate. In fact, under Bass’s direction the LAPD has collaborated with federal authorities in both the raids and suppression of the protests. Already one journalist has been shot.
This raid is an escalation of the Trump team’s determination to terrorize immigrant communities. Instead, these communities and their allies have come to the defense of immigrants. Itching for a fight, Trump has mobilized the National Guard in order to stress his vision of a white America.
The Solidarity National Committee stands in solidarity with immigrant communities and those who protest this terrorism. We call for the immediate withdrawal of all armed forces and the immediate release of all protesters.
– Stop labeling immigrants criminals! Stop terrorizing Immigrants!
– National Guard and other armed forces out of Los Angeles! ICE out of our cities and communities!
– Amnesty for SEIU leader David Huerta and all arrested protesters!
– Defend the right to protest!
