This revolt is an extension of the “flamingo revolution”, which began at the end of May 2026 against a tourist complex project linked to the Trump family in a protected area of the coast. After months of peaceful rallies, anger has widened and hardened. On 17 October, in front of the Ministry of Education, a burnt suitcase symbolised the rejection of a future reduced to emigration.
The government responded with water cannons, tear gas and arrests. The Albanian ombudsman reported traces of violence among detainees and denounced their conditions of detention. Rama, for his part, claims that extremist groups have confiscated the mobilization and refuses to resign.
But the repression has sparked solidarity: parents and hundreds of teachers have joined the marches, while a teachers’ union has called for a strike. Beyond the conditions of study, this mobilization calls into question a system that sacrifices the future of young people to the interests of the powerful. Its expansion opens up the possibility of a power struggle against the authorities.
