National mobilization on 28 March
The regional protests on 28 March 2026 are a key moment to remind the world of the Palestinian people’s legitimate struggle for land in the face of a colonizing and genocidal state. They point out that the policy of expropriation continues in the West Bank as well as in Gaza, while hundreds of attacks, in the form of pogroms, affect villages in the north near Nablus and in the south in Massafer Yatta and Hebron. Some have consisted of burning houses with their inhabitants inside.
They are a reminder of the scale of the genocide in Gaza: aid is still arriving in dribs and drabs and Gazans live under the constant threat of bombings and deadly shooting. According to a recent study, “in Gaza, more than one million children are in need of mental health services and psychosocial support,” almost all of them under the age of 18. Thus, 96% of children believe that their death is imminent, a sign of the intensity of fear and trauma experienced on a daily basis. About 61% of children and adolescents suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, 38% from depression and 41% from anxiety. The situation is just as alarming among adults, one in five of whom contemplate suicide almost daily. This is a major mental health crisis, largely neglected, in a context where the humanity of Palestinians is constantly being questioned.
But the Israeli state has extended these policies beyond historic Palestine. Taking advantage of the war against Iran and invoking the threat of Hezbollah, it applies the same logic to Lebanon as to Gaza: destruction and razing of entire villages in the south of the country, preventing the inhabitants from returning. Health infrastructure is also targeted, in particular health workers: nearly40 have been killed since the beginning of the war, often in “double” attacks. Rescue workers in southern Lebanon say they have to sleep alone in their vehicles, move away from each other and limit their teams to two or three people so as not to become targets.
Amplifying the erosion of support for Israel
However, after the UN General Assembly and the Security Council, it is the G7 countries that are denouncing the “unacceptable” attacks of... Iran against countries hosting American bases. The world upside down: the aggressors are not even mentioned. Only Spain, through its Prime Minister, did not take part in this concert of support for the murderous US/Israeli enterprise. While the majority of UN countries have condemned the Iranian bombings, international support for the war against Iran and, more broadly, for imperialism appears increasingly weakened.
Although a loyal supporter of Israel’s genocidal policy, Germany has abandoned its intervention at the International Court of Justice, while several countries have joined South Africa in the genocide proceedings. Yet, despite the war crimes committed in Lebanon, France continues to support the Israeli state, due to a lack of sufficient pressure.
Palestine and the struggle against Israeli imperialism remain more than ever on the agenda, in a fight that goes far beyond the region. The genocidal and imperial dynamics at work risk serving as a model against other peoples in struggle. Land Day is a day of international solidarity: let’s be numerous on 28 March in demonstrations.
