Bring back Kilmar Armando Abrego García
23 April, by Dan La BotzA growing movement of civil rights organizations, Latino community groups, labor unions, and legislators is demanding the return of Kilmar Armando Abrego García, who President Donald Trump had deported to a prison in El Salvador in violation of the U.S. Constitution, and they have pushed this case through the federal courts to the U.S. Supreme Court. Abrego García’s case has at the same time become the center of the struggle between Trump and the courts, a contest that has now become a constitutional crisis, raising the question of whether the United States will remain a liberal democracy or become an authoritarian dictatorship.

UK Supreme Court backs bigots and transphobes
21 April, by Paris WilderOn 16 April 2025, the UK Supreme Court ruled that “woman” and “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 (the EA) refer to the sex assigned at birth in a case that was pushed for and funded by the UK gender critical movement. In essence, the judgment has found that being a woman entails having an XX chromosome, large gametes and the ability to produce children. This judgment means that trans women with gender recognition certificates (GRC) will no longer be legally defined as women under the EA.
This is a fundamental attack on the human rights of trans people.

13 June 2016, by Éric Toussaintread article...This series of articles analyses Greece’s major debt crises by placing them in the international economic and political context, an approach that is systematically absent from the dominant narrative and very rarely present in critical analyses. Since 1826, a series of major debt crises have profoundly marked the lives of the Greek people. Each time, European Powers formed a coalition to impose new debts in order to repay the earlier ones. This coalition of Powers dictated policies to Greece that corresponded to their own interests and those of the few big private banks and large fortunes. Each time, those policies were aimed at extracting the tax resources necessary for repayment of the debt and entailed a reduction in social spending as well as decreased public investments. In a variety of ways, Greece and the Greek people were denied the exercise of their own sovereignty. With the complicity of the Greek ruling classes, this kept Greece in a subordinate, peripheral condition.

Newly Independent Greece had an Odious Debt round her Neck

Yet this debt crisis, mainly the work of private banks, is nothing new in the history of independent Greece. The lives of Greeks have been blighted by major debt crises no less than four times since 1826. Each time, the European powers have connived together to force Greece to contract new debts to repay the previous ones. This coalition of powers dictated policies to Greece that served their own interests and those of a few big private banks they favoured. Each time, those policies were designed to free up enough fiscal resources to service the debt by reducing social spending and public investment. Thus Greece and her people have, in a variety of ways, been denied the exercise of their sovereign rights, keeping Greece down with the status of a subordinate, peripheral country. In the so-called case of “the parliamentary assistants to the European Parliament”, Marine Le Pen was sentenced on Monday 31 March to four years in prison, two of which were suspended, a fine of €200,000 and was banned from running for office for five years. Thus, taking into account the usual judicial delays before the holding of an appeal and the effect of political destabilization, her candidacy for the presidential election in 2027 is very much in doubt, especially if the election is called early.
