Dozens of boats will sail to Gaza in the coming days in an effort to break the Zionist blockade. After the attack by Israeli forces on the Madleen and Hamdala Freedom Flotilla boats approaching Gaza in June and July, in which activists such as Greta Thunberg and Brazilian Thiago Ávila were arrested, more than 40 countries and 300 people will be involved in the Global Sumud Flotilla, with a Brazilian delegation of more than 10 people – among them activist Thiago Ávila, who will once again sail to Gaza. Breaking the siege of the Gaza Strip and opening a humanitarian corridor is a historic and fundamental mission to turn the world’s attention to what is happening in Palestine, denounce the genocide, and strengthen the struggle for a free Palestine.
The first Gaza-bound boat will depart in late August from Barcelona, and the others will depart in early September from Tunis and other ports that have not yet been disclosed. In a note sent to Agencia Brasil, Freedom Flotilla Brasil and Global Movement to Gaza Brasil stated:
“Our hearts stand in solidarity with the suffering of the Palestinian people who are experiencing the first widely televised genocide. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been injured or murdered, and millions more are affected by starvation, disease and lack of medical care deliberately caused by the Zionist regime. We organize our outrage to act where our governments fail. We sail with the solidarity of the peoples against the complicity and impunity that reign in Brazil and in the world. […] Immediate action is needed to end the genocide and allow international bodies access to the territory in order to feed the Palestinian people.”
The attempts to create a humanitarian corridor to Gaza represent the latest coordinated action of international denunciation in the midst of the genocide perpetrated by the Zionist occupation. Brazilian activist Thiago Ávila, who took part in the Madleen expedition in June and has been incarcerated in Israeli prisons, issued a call to action on his social media.
Three activists and leaders of MES-PSOL will be on the Global Sumud Flotilla, an international effort organised by the Freedom Flotilla to break the blockade of Gaza and bring food, supplies and medicine to the Palestinian people. We wish strength and solidarity to our comrades Gabi Tolotti, president of PSOL-RS and chief of staff to Deputy Luciana Genro, Mariana Conti, councillor in Campinas, and comrade Nicolas Calabrese, activist with the Emancipa Popular Education Network and PSOL-RJ!
