Stand up against repression in Turkey
7 September 2013Eleven Research Assistants who work in the Faculty of Communication at Marmara University in Turkey – and who are also members of Egitim-Sen (Education and Science Workers’ Union) – participated in a KESK (Confederation of Public Workers’ Unions) strike action held on June 4 and 5, 2013. As a result of this participation, disciplinary proceedings by the Rector of Marmara University against these assistants were initiated. In addition to these proceedings, the number of proceedings on 15 different Research Assistants reached at 25 for 2 years since Prof. Dr. Yusuf Devran had taken up the position as the Dean of Faculty of Communication.
Labour lawyer Haitham Mohamedain arrested by army
6 September 2013Haitham Mohamedain, one of Egypt’s leading labour lawyers and an activist with the Revolutionary Socialists, has been arrested on his way to meet clients in Suez. He was detained by the Army near Suez and has been transferred to a police station in the city. According to the latest information from Egypt, he has been charged with assaulting an army officer.

Birth of a new organization of the revolutionary left

On 7 July, still in the heat of the recent demonstrations that swept the country, about one hundred and sixty delegates attended the Conference which approved the unification between three currents Colectivo Socialismo y Libertad (CSOL), Enlace and the Colectivo Luta Vermelha (CLV), creating a new political organization in the Brazilian revolutionary left, organized within the PSol.
