The dismissal of General Zhang Youxia was officially announced on January 24. This is another step in the purges that have been taking place within the Chinese army’s general staff. Zhang was considered “untouchable” given his supposed closeness to Xi Jinping. As for the Central Military Commission (CMC), it is now a hollow shell, having lost five of its seven members. Xi continues to clear the field around him, contrary to any form of collegiality.

read article...Following Ismail Haniyeh’s assassination by Israel in Tehran on 31 July 2024 he was succeeded as head of Hamas’ political bureau for the whole movement by Yahya Sinwar, who had led Hamas’ political bureau for the Gaza Strip since 2017. According to Osama Hamdan, a senior Hamas official in Beirut, speaking to al-Jazeera, this choice was adopted ‘unanimously’. Sinwar himself was killed by Israeli occupation forces, apparently unaware of his identity, on 17 October 2024.

Our comrade Andreas Klocke, with whom we were active in what was then the only group in the Greek section of the Fourth International, died at the beginning of October, greatly weakened by a very long illness following a complex operation. In recent years, as far as his strength allowed, Andreas continued to be involved in observing and analysing what could advance a revolutionary crisis.
