Congress decided to remove the president from office a few months before the presidential elections, scheduled for 12 April 2026. The controversial president of Congress, José Jerí, took over the presidency.

On 20 September, after an anti-immigration rally, fascists rioted in The Hague. On October 5, a quarter of a million people marched through the streets of Amsterdam to show their solidarity with Palestine.
