In early June, the government of prime-minster Dick Schoof lost its majority as the far-right PVV of Geert Wilders blew up the coalition. Shortly before the elections, the contrast between the most important political events in the Netherlands could hardly be sharper. On 20 September, after an anti-immigration rally, fascists rioted in The Hague. On October 5, a quarter of a million people marched through the streets of Amsterdam to show their solidarity with Palestine.

These founding principles are being flouted in the run-up to the country’s presidential elections.
Only yesterday, French intellectuals overflowed with compassion. From Bosnia to Chechnya, by way of Kosovo, on every front of the new world disorder. Their silence before the imperial crusade in Afghanistan and before the criminal policy of the Sharon government in Palestine is all the more deafening. This inglorious resignation is not, alas, unrelated to the relative weakness of the anti-war mobilizations in France, compared with the demonstrations that have taken place since 7 October 2002 in most big European countries.
Daniel Bensaïd, a central leader of the French Ligue Communiste Revolutionnaire (LCR - French section of the Fourth International) spoke on ’Leninism in the 21st century’ at the June ’Marxism 2001’ event organised by the British Socialist Workers Party. IV spoke to him afterwards.

Lecornu 2 is a pure Macronist government, made up of technocrats, former Macron advisors, and also those under criminal investigation: Rachida Dati from the Culture Ministry soon to be tried for corruption and influence peddling; Vincent Jeanbrun, Minister of Housing, accused of favoritism in the allocation of housing to relatives.
