The Socialist Resistance day-school on Latin America held on 24 June was the biggest and most successful event independently organised by SR in its four years of existence. Over a hundred people, many of them new to SR, attended the morning plenary addressed by Celia Hart, Michael Lowy and Edouard Diago.

Hundreds of thousands marched into Oaxaca, Friday 16 June, to support striking teachers whose encampment was brutally attacked by police on Wednesday. Marchers included a contingent from San Salvador Atenco, brutalised by a paramilitary police attack in May.

Several people were killed, acccording to local union leaders. when thousands of state and federal police attacked the encampment (plantón) of striking schoolteachers in the central square of the Mexican city Oaxaca on 14 June.

The 23rd youth camp of the Fourth International will take place near Perugia in Italy from 29th July to 5th August. More than 500 people from all over Europe are expected to attend.

More than 100,000 - organizers say up to 140,000 - joined demonstrations in Copenhagen and four other cities on May 17. The demonstrations were the largest for more than 20 years and reflect a growing alliance between trade unions and student organizations.

The success of the 4th European Social Forum (Athens 4-7th May) exceeded even the most optimistic expectations. More than 35,000 participants attended the seminars and workshops.
