15th October 2011: a great victory for the outraged
18 October 2011, bySince February 2003, this is the first time a call for an international action on a specific date has met with such an echo. In Spain, where the Indignados movement began, almost 500 000 demonstrators marched through the streets of around 80 different cities, including 200 000 or more in Madrid from which I am writing these lines.
Massive occupation targets Wall Street
17 October 2011, byThe following article appears in the October edition of Socialist Action newspaper.
It’s enough! The hour of the rising has come!
17 October 2011, byThe government has crossed all limits. It’s not enough that the workers, the unemployed, the young people, pensioners and professionals are plunged into misery—Finance Minister Venizelos went so far as to announce in Parliament—we should also be happy to be “under control”! The PASOK government and the interests of capital that it represents, in absolute harmony with the Troika, felt extremely positive shortly before announcing their slaughter package! The humiliation is almost perfect. At the same moment as their policy becomes bankrupt, and as working families are driven into bankruptcy, the holy alliance of government, the EU, and the IMF want to make us believe that there is no other way to save the country from bankruptcy. In reality they are the ones who lead us into bankruptcy under the control, and according to the terms of, the banks and multinational companies, the EU and the Greek industrialists (SEV).
We won’t pay your poll taxes! We shall bring about your downfall
17 October 2011, byThe poll tax that the PASOK government pushed through Parliament, with its notorious “special tax on real estate,” represents the summit of the taxation raid and of social barbarism at the expense of the workers and the masses of the people, who already live on the brink of ruin. Even before this there was tremendous anger about the imposition of the “special tax” and the “special business tax” which had been levied in the medium-term program last June. It is estimated that the total burden for an average family will be considerably more than €1000—and this in a phase where wages and pensions have been brutally cut, unemployment is rising sharply, hundreds of thousands of layoffs are being prepared in the public sector by jobs being “left vacant.”

Having nothing to conceal, I provided the requested information. Within 5 minutes of their departure two more policemen in uniform appeared and demanded two passport size photographs. I responded that I could provide the photographs only if there was a written request. Within 15 minutes we got a phone call requesting me to provide the photographs. I repeated that I would require the request in writing. The letter was provided within 10 minutes . Accordingly I promptly provided 2 passport size photographs
Solidarity from CITA
13 October 2011This is a message of solidarity sent by participants in the International Council of Car Workers (CITA) to the European Conference of Workers in the Car Industry, held at the International Institute for Research and Education in Amsterdam on May 28-29, 2011. We have also published Declaration of the European Car Workers’ Conference an overview at Creating cross-border links between militants and Ford Blanquefort, an example from the same event.
Ford Blanquefort, an example
13 October 2011, byWhile car bosses in France are on the offensive to eliminate jobs and close factories, the long struggle at the Ford factory near Bordeaux is a counter-example showing that even in this situation, victories are possible. It is no coincidence that one of the main organisers of this struggle in the Ford Blanquefort plant is Philippe Poutou, the activist that the New Anti-capitalist Party (NPA) has chosen as candidate for the French presidential election of 2012.
