“It's the workers of the hospital that know best how to run it. Of course, there are different ideas but we have the experience of working together. That's where the health team comes together to figure out how best to care for the patient and involve the family in a discussion.”

In September 2025, after having presided over the country since December 2023, the neo-fascist Javier Milei suffered an electoral defeat in an important vote. The result was the election in the province of Buenos Aires. This election renewed 46 seats in the provincial Chamber of Deputies and 23 in the provincial Senate. The Peronist opposition beat Milei's party by 13 points and holds a majority in the Buenos Aires Provincial Senate. The capital province represents about 37-38% of the national electorate. The provincial elections in Buenos Aires always serve as a major test at the national level, including for Javier Milei this year.

“Everything is moving toward the eventual establishment of a new political regime in the country. Massive and sustained popular mobilisation is what can put a stop to this reactionary process, but this must not sideline the national midterm elections next October, which are also a decisive arena for struggle.”

The Argentine political field is (again) in turmoil. A few months before the mid-term legislative elections, and only a few days after the announcement of her candidacy as a regional deputy, the Supreme Court has just confirmed former president Cristina Kirchner's conviction for corruption: 6 years in prison and lifetime ineligibility.

On 14 February 2025, Argentine president Javier Milei used his Twitter/X account to promote $LIBRA, a recently created cryptocurrency. The tweet - immediately relayed by his sister Karina (Secretary General of the Presidency and a key figure in “La Libertad Avanza”, the presidential party) as well as an army of ‘influencers' close to the government - helped propel the digital asset.

On Saturday 1 February, huge demonstrations took place across Argentina in response to President Javier Milei's speech at the Davos forum the previous week. In a half-hour speech to the cream of the capitalist world, Milei, in a significant mimicry of Trump, unrolled the catalogue of his hatreds: feminists, ‘wokism', gay couples (whom he accused of paedophilia), progressivism, the left and ‘leftists' (who must be ‘driven out'). Hundreds of thousands of people across the country rose up not only against Milei and his ideology, but to assert their determination to fight for all democratic and social rights and to stop the wave of fascism sweeping the world.

On the evening of November 19, 2023, when official data from the presidential runoff in Argentina confirmed the victory of Javier Milei, the candidate of “La libertad adelantado” (Liberty Advances or LLA), many activists and intellectuals of the left and progressivism woke up to a reality that we had tried to deny or that we had not been able to understand. For this reason, the attempt to reach explanations, reasons and hypotheses for this unthinkable event must be, at the same time, an exercise in revising the categories and characterisations we made of Argentine social and political reality in previous years.
