The war is fuelling the profits of fossil fuel companies while aggravating the ecological and social crisis. Faced with exploding prices and organized dependence on all oil, it is urgent to impose immediate measures while breaking with fossil capitalism.

Environmental struggles and protests against the destruction of the natural environment are common in the Balkans, and Serbia is no exception. The most recent and symbolic of these is the protest against the installation of lithium mines in the west of the country. During our trip, we met with an activist from the anti-extractivist collective Marš Sa Drine in a hotel in downtown Belgrade, away from the prying ears of the Vučić regime.

As the dust settles after COP30 in Belém, the scale of the failure becomes impossible to ignore. The world is on a path toward catastrophic warming, ecological systems are collapsing, and millions across the Global South face annihilation, not in the distant future, but today. The world's political and economic elites arrived in the Amazon to negotiate when the 1.5°C target had already slipped out of reach, and they left with little more than symbolic gestures. No binding emissions cuts. No serious plan to phase out fossil fuels. No meaningful climate finance for adaptation. No accountability for the destruction already unleashed.

The common weal versus capitalist modernity.
Free public transport can open cities to all. It combats social injustice and can also help to tackle climate change, by moving away from car-centred urban transport systems.
Public transport has been made free in more than 130 municipalities in Brazil – and, in Europe, Luxembourg; Tallinn, Estonia; Belgrade, Serbia and several French cities.
In this interview, the writer and activist Denys Gorbach talks with Dr Simon Pirani about Kryvyi (…)

With each passing day, the evidence—not only scientific but also empirical, as seen in [the floods in] Valencia last year—confirms the ecological emergency. Not as a phenomenon of a grim future, but as a present reality. The UN Secretary-General himself, António Guterres, stated that 2024 was "a masterclass in climate destruction." This statement was part of his opening address at the COP29 global climate summit in Baku, exactly one year ago.

For nearly two years, Israel has waged a livestreamed genocide against Indigenous Palestinians in Gaza and across historic Palestine, devastating lives, land, and ecosystems. UN experts have described Israel's crimes as including domicide, urbicide, scholasticide, medicide, cultural genocide and ecocide. In September 2025, the UN Commission of Inquiry confirmed that Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza.
