President Donald Trump's war on Iran is barbarous, cruel, vicious, undertaken and carried out without a bit of concern for the millions of human beings it is affecting in Iran, in the region, and throughout the world. The nature of the war was revealed on the first day, 28 February , when the United States hit a school in Minab and killed an estimated 175 people, 100 of them children. Attacks on civilians are a war crime, all too common a war crime in all modern wars. Now Trump is threatening an even greater war crime.

The Vietnam-Dioxin Collective is part of a decolonial ecology since the cause is not only ecological but is also the result of colonial and imperialist logics and of a capitalist system that produces environmental crises (which are in fact continuous) and wars in times of crisis. We demand justice for the victims of Agent Orange, a chemical and defoliant weapon used during the US-led Imperial War in Vietnam.

Vietnam's independence was first proclaimed in August 1945, and we could soon be celebrating its 80th anniversary. De Gaulle decided otherwise, sending an expeditionary force to reconquer his lost colony. Indochina had to endure two devastating successive imperial wars, first French, then American. Washington mobilised all the means at its disposal to crush the Vietnamese revolution, certain that it would prevail - and was defeated. The image has gone down in history: the staff of the US (…)

On Sunday, 10 June 2018, thousands of people took to the streets in major Vietnamese cities—Nha Trang, Binh Thuan, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City, among others. Academics, independent journalists, and overseas Vietnamese signed petitions to join in their protest against the Draft Law on the 99-year lease of the three Special Administrative and Economic coastal zones in Vietnam. Workers, too, went on strike in two industrial zones in Long An and Tien Giang provinces. These collective actions led to a concession from the government: it would delay the National Assembly's ratification of the Draft Law to its next meeting.

In February 1968, the liberation forces in South Vietnam began the “Tet offensive”. It was conducted on a very large scale throughout South Vietnam, including Saigon. Its international reach was considerable, it galvanized anti-imperialist and national liberation movements and accelerated the youth radicalization in Japan, the USA and Europe. It represented a turning point in the war and in the take-off of resistance at the very heart of the US military.

 <dc:subject>Vietnam</dc:subject>

Today there is nothing unusual in the United States losing a war. This was not the case in the previous century. Just 40 years ago, the US debacle in 1975 in Viet Nam was an event which was all the more significant in that Washington had for years mobilized its gigantic resources to prevail, while the Indochinese struggle had a major international scope. Between revolution and counter-revolution, the confrontation of east-west “blocs” and the Sino-Soviet conflict, Vietnam was the “focal point” of the world situation in a geopolitical configuration without equivalent since then.
