It is now evident that the US imperialism has lost all its human and financial investment in Afghanistan. The Taliban have almost occupied Afghanistan without a fight. What has been spent in Afghanistan in the name of development, ‘democracy' and training of the armed forces for the last 20 years was unprecedented in the history of the world.

Pakistan, hostage of the religious - The radical left in resistance

The Pakistani Supreme Court had just declared Asia Bibi innocent of the crime of blasphemy for which she was previously sentenced to death. Religious movements did not accept the decision and fought back, calling to paralyze the country by blocking the roads, opening a major political crisis. Mohammad Afrazul, from Malda's Sayadpur village, worked as a labour contractor and lived with twenty-four other labourers in a four roomed, single storey house in Rajsamand's Dhoinda, some 300 kilometres from Jaipur. He was first attacked with an axe, then burnt to death, and the entire process recorded on video and uploaded with pride with the assertion that as a Hindu, the perpetrator was preventing a love jihad. This episode in Rajasthan on 7th December shows exactly the distance travelled in a quarter century in India, by the forces of Hindutva.

The revolutionary process in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) has suffered through a period of defeats and setbacks since the heady days of 2011. [1] Progressive and democratic forces have been or are being squeezed by two counterrevolutionary forcesâ€”the existing regimes and various strains of Islamic fundamentalismâ€”and their imperial and regional supporters. The regimes were and are the main threat to the revolts. At the same time, Islamic fundamentalist movements have to be understood as a fundamentally reactionary political force throughout the region.
