“These struggles for anti-war peace, the defense of working people's livelihoods, and the fight for climate justice in the face of a deepening climate crisis are unfolding in response to the multifaceted crises of the capitalist system. As these crises converge into a single unified front, our movements and struggles must likewise interconnect to form a powerful, single stream. The current situation demands nothing less.”

“Absolutely, I hold on to hope, hope rooted in the new generation and its capacity to invent new forms of struggle, as we have seen recently with the Moroccan Gen Z movement, an extraordinary moment, with thousands of young people mobilising and using modern technology to coordinate their action. I make a crucial distinction between optimism and hope, they are not the same thing at all. Optimism is the belief that the best outcome will happen. Hope is the belief that a better outcome is possible, with no guarantee attached. I can keep hoping, while recognising that today the balance of evidence weighs heavily toward pessimism.”

The passing of Gloria Steinem, the most celebrated of the US “second wave” feminists of the 1970s, provides an opportunity to consider both her life and work. Some on the left, such as Jenny Brown writing in Jacobin, have condemned Steinem as a “neoliberal” who used and misused the women's movement, disdaining the movement's radical wing, to advance her own career as self-proclaimed leader.

“Often at the center of these debates is Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who is seen as a possible candidate in the Democratic Party's presidential primary election in 2028. While she has not yet said if she will run, that possibility polarized DSA members.”

MIDTERM U.S. ELECTIONS are traditionally predictably unpredictable, the main question being how much loss the party of the sitting President will suffer. Conventionally that should go double or triple for the Republicans this November.

On 3 January 2026, the United States launched a military operation against Venezuela, resulting in the capture and detention of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, and their transfer to the United States. During this attack, carried out using 150 aircraft, around a hundred people lost their lives, including 32 Cubans who had attempted to protect the country's presidential palace; the remaining victims were Venezuelans. A few hours after this intervention, Donald Trump announced that Washington now claimed to be temporarily in control of Venezuela and would exploit its oil resources.
