Ukraine is still resisting heroically Russia's imperialist war of annexation. Hopes had been placed on the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska for a ceasefire. But in the run-up to the summit and since , Russia escalated its attacks on Ukraine with more drones and missiles targeting civilian housing and infrastructure while making only limited progress on the ground. Russia has now also sent drones over Poland and Romania.

What's at stake in the British general election?

The general election in Britain on 12 December will be the most important in 40 years. Back in 1979, Margaret Thatcher became Prime Minister, introducing neoliberal policies with a wave of privatisations and the breakup of the welfare state. Despite heroic struggles in the 1980s, especially the year-long miners' strike, the defeats of the labour movement have had an enduring effect. This was most evident with the political change in the Labour Party with Tony Blair becoming leader and then Prime Minister for ten years until 2007.

Chilcot report vindicates anti-war movement

The Chilcot report into Britain's war in Iraq has given a devastating verdict on the British establishment and Tony Blair in particular. It concludes the war was not necessary because all peaceful options had not been exhausted and there was no imminent threat from Saddam Hussein. Furthermore Chilcot severely criticises Blair and his government for failing to plan for the aftermath of the war. Chilcot may not accuse Blair of lying, but that is the only conclusion that can be read into the report.

Tens of thousands joined the demonstration in central London on Saturday 21 June against austerity called the People's Assembly. On the longest and hottest day of the year, trade-union and campaign activists assembled to demand an alternative to austerity based on taxing wealth to invest public services, and a living wage and decent pensions for all.

N30: unions strike a blow against weak government

The strike on Wednesday 30th November in Britain in defence of pensions for public sector workers was the largest seen for a generation. Over 29 unions were involved including the three biggest,UNISON, UNITE, and the GMB. All together, over 2.5 million workers were on strike across the National Health Service, local councils and throughout national government departments.
