A huge desire for freedom and democracy was expressed in Hong Kong in 2019. For the government, it is now time for revenge and to bring the population into line with the standards in force on the Chinese mainland. The new electoral rules promulgated on 30 March aim to complete the elimination of all forms of counter-power.

 <dc:subject>Tunisia</dc:subject>
 <dc:subject>Arab Revolutions</dc:subject>

In January 2011 an immense hope arose, a hope for a new path in the history of the Mediterranean basin, and beyond:

• In the Arab region, the revolutionary wave that started in Tunisia quickly spread to many countries;

• The example of the occupation of Tahrir Square in Cairo directly inspired the "indignant ones" of the ”movement of the squares" against neo-liberal austerity in Greece and in the Spanish State.

Nearly five years later, the counter-revolution has undeniably scored points, including:

• The massacres organized by Assad and the Islamist forces in Syria;

• The return in Egypt to an even more repressive military power than Mubarak's was.

Moreover, war is also raging in many countries of the region, especially in nearby Libya.

On February 5, 2015 the Tunisian parliament elected on October 26, 2014 gave a vote of confidence to the new government with an overwhelming majority of 81.5%. This major turning point in the political life of Tunisia takes place in a context of economic crisis and social tensions as demonstrations and strikes spread.

 <dc:subject>Arab Revolutions</dc:subject>

Despite the disillusionment of a part of the population, particularly among young people and the most disadvantaged layers, participation in the Tunisian parliamentary elections on October 26, 2014 was nearly 70% of registered voters. In the elections of October 2011, Ennahdha had won 41.5% of the seats. It only got 31.8% this time. A portion of the population has expressed its rejection of the two years of Ennahdha government and the accompanying Islamist violence. The CPR and Ettakatol, who had participated in the government, have seen their number of elected representatives crumble. Nida Tounès, whose leaders for the most part originate from the regime which existed from independence to 2011, came first with 39.2% of the seats. The Front Populaire, which brings together most of the left and a part of the Arab nationalists, won 6.9% of the seats, against 2.8% previously.
