After Hasina's resignation, struggle continues

On August 5, at 2:30 pm, Sheikh Hasina resigned from her post as prime minister and fled with some of her Special Security Forces by helicopter to India. She is now in Delhi, and some reports indicate that she wants to go to London for political asylum, but Britain is refusing her entry because of her human rights violations.

Floods & Erosion: Call to Support Natural Disaster Affected People in Bangladesh

Over last 3 weeks Bangladesh is experiencing terrible flash flood in the north, northwestern, and northeastern parts of the country. Around 22 districts out of 64 are affected by the flood ravaging. Various river flows by 130 cm over the danger levels. As a result, vast areas were inundated by the flowing resulting in huge damages to lives and livelihoods, animals and properties, crops-croplands and houses of the ordinary people. In certain areas, mighty rivers caused erosion, washing away vast areas like villages and market place with all animal and houses, properties, etc. They just sunk into the rivers for ever. According to the government 4.8 million people are hit by the flood so far. But rom the private survey, 10 million people are badly affected by the flood and river erosion.

A Call to Support the Landless People Char Conference

ESSF has received this call to support the Char Conference from Bangladesh Krishok Federation (BKF) and Bangladesh Kishani Sabha (BKS). The occupation of fallow land and Char (small islands) goes back to 1992. The five objectives of the conference are: Declaration of a â€˜National Land Action Day', compilation and preservation of the history of Khasland movement, chalking out the planning and strategy of taking possession of new Khasland, a brochure on the wounded and dead in the Khasland movement including Abbus Satter Khan who was the pioneer of Khasland movement, a policy paper on protection of landless people and livelihood in the context of global climate change.
