On Thursday 13 February, 2025, 100,000 people marched through the streets of Brussels in response to a call from the trade union common front: a multitude of sectors (trade unions, feminists, anti-fascists, among many others) mobilised against the all-out attacks by the new federal government, the “Arizona coalition” which has been in power in Belgium since the beginning of February. This remarkable turnout represents a real acceleration in social tension. The Gauche anticapitaliste (Belgian section of the Fourth International ) was present and marched with Commune Colère, a unitary pole bringing together workers from many backgrounds (trade union left, feminist, anti-racist and anti-fascist collectives, environmental activists and so on), whose bloc brought together several hundred people around combative slogans.

This statement was published by the LCR-SAP, Belgian section of the Fourth Internation on 24 October 2016, after the vote in the Wallonia parliament refused the CETA thus blocking the signing of this deal planned for 27 October. Finally on 27 October an intra-Belgium agreement broke the deadlock. [1]

The static vigil against fascism and Islamophobia and for the victims of the terrorist attacks that was planned to be held in front of the Stock Exchange building (the 'Bourse') in Brussels on Saturday 2nd April was severely disrupted by the police. Nearly a hundred people were arrested and taken to the police barracks in Etterbeek, a Southern suburb of Brussels. Customers sitting on the terrace of a neighbouring cafe, and even people inside the café, were also arrested.

The LCR-SAP condemns in the most energetic fashion the cowardly terrorist attacks that were perpetrated on 22 March in Brussels. No political or religious motivation can be an excuse for these heinous crimes. The LCR-SAP expresses its support and its profound solidarity with all the innocent victims of this blind violence.

 <dc:subject>European Union</dc:subject>

The temporary “solution” of the Greek crisis (in reality, a crisis of the European Union) by an attack of amazing ferocity against the workers, the plundering of their country and the putting under supervision of their institutions constitutes a major event. The fact that this “solution” was accepted by the executive team of Syriza around Alexis Tsipras, in spite of the massive vote against austerity that occurred one week earlier at the time of the referendum decided by this same government, brutally challenges all the left forces fighting for an alternative to neo-liberal austerity. By an impressive speeding up of the history, all this left – including in Greece: the left of Syriza is not giving up – is suddenly confronted with a strategic debate of the greatest importance: how to articulate social struggle and policy at the national and European level; what attitude to take to the Euro and the European Union; what political/institutional perspective to adopt? In this vital debate for the survival of the left, the LCR Belgium [1] puts the theses below forward for discussion.

 <dc:subject>Greek discussion</dc:subject>

The situation in Greece shows there is no third way possible between neoliberal policies and a radical anti-capitalist alternative. Any will to seriously contest the neoliberal order leads inevitably to the necessity of relying on social mobilisation so as to implement a set of measures to break the resistance of the dominant class. Schematically, these measures are organised around seven major axes:
