This Sunday (10 November) will go down in South American history as one of its darkest days. After weeks of institutional destabilization, business groups, landowners and the Bolivian Armed Forces have just succeeded in removing President Evo Morales and his vice-president García Linera from office. This is a coup d'état with a reactionary character and strong racist components, as shown by the successive attacks on the headquarters of indigenous organizations and the violence of the extreme right against activists in favor of popular sovereignty.

1. The self-proclamation of the right-wing Juan Guaidó as president of Venezuela, in a coup d'état led by Trump, to pave the way for direct intervention in the neighboring country, placed Latin America as a center of tension in the global situation. By directly operating this policy, U.S. imperialism once again acts in its supposed "backyard. This change in U.S. policy was made possible by the success of Bolsonaro in Brazil and Duque in Colombia. Without these fundamental supports, the situation would be different.

The elections in the first round ended up maintaining the same scenario of instability and polarization provoked by the 2016 coup and which deepened an economic and social crisis that had already unfolded. It also deepened a crisis of political representation of such a magnitude that it generated the conditions for the emergence of an extreme-right candidate that reached the second round with considerable support from the ruling classes. The election knocked out oligarchs that have traditionally dominated the political system, allowing the extreme-right to capitalize on the social rage against the "system".

More than a hundred people, including delegates and observers, took part in the PSOL's first ecosocialist gathering in the Brazilian city of Curitiba, in Paraná state, from 1 to 3 April. A series of panels focussed on aspects of the ecosocialist agenda both in the region and worldwide, on mapping socio-environmental conflicts within Brazil and on how to transform the PSOL into an ecosocialist party.

The dictator Gaddafi is resisting the heroic rebellious struggle of the people with bombs, bullets and mercenaries. His past confrontations with imperialism are nothing but ancient history. Almost 20 years ago Khadafi became a staunch ally of the interests of multinational oil companies, U.S. and European imperialism. His dictatorship prohibits the organisation of political parties, trade unions and students movements, with prison and torture for anyone who tries to express disagreement.
