The neo-fascist in the White House is attempting to bring the Caribbean island and its government to its knees, strangling it economically once and for all, killing its people with darkness and scarcity. But this is not “just” a war against Cuba and its revolutionary tradition. It is the continuation of the war against the sovereignty of all Latin American countries and Latino peoples within the United States. Scheinbaum, Lula, Petro, Orsi and the social democratic governments must emphatically oppose this crime in all international forums and organisations.

On Sunday, 21 September, around 100 cities across the country – including the capitals São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Porto Alegre, Recife and Brasília – witnessed something unprecedented in the last three years: activism, the left and social movements took to the streets and squares, alongside a broader popular sector, equally outraged by two measures voted on by the Chamber of Deputies. The demonstrations in São Paulo and Rio were the strongest since the mobilizations for Fora Bolsonaro (Bolsonaro Out) between 2021 and 2022, and the celebration of Lula's victory on Paulista Avenue in October 2022.

Meanwhile, the political crisis is escalating by the day as President Trump has banned all travel from Brazil to the United States and the Brazilian Supreme Court released a video of far-right President Jair Bolsonaro's cabinet meeting in which he threatens his opponents repeatedly in an obscenity-ridden tirade.
