&lt;p&gt;Vani's parents work in a tea plantation in the Kandyian hill country. &#8220;We saw how our parents suffered,&#8221; she continues matter-of-factly. &#8220;We wanted a better life.&#8221; A better life is not always easier.&lt;/p&gt;
