No matter how much time passes, or how often history is declared to have ended, the debate over socialist strategy and organization always returns. This foundational question appeared in embryo at the very start of the workers movement in the nineteenth century and was raised explicitly by Lenin when he described his perspective as “tactics as plan” and when revolutionaries split with social-democracy during World War I.

The characteristics of the current crisis, as well as the practical and theoretical course of recent years, have allowed a fruitful dialogue between two of the central theoretical currents of the last two centuries, feminism and Marxism. With a past history of marriages and divorces it seems that in recent years we are witnessing their reconciliation. In the past decade, the literature that is indebted to both currents has been rediscovering, as well as overcoming, some of the historical debates that have marked their relationship. Undoubtedly, the mass growth of the feminist movement has contributed to this. And, on the other hand, it not surprising that during recent years there has been a renewal of academic and activist interest in Marxism: university seminars proliferate, the works of classical thinkers have been reissued and so on.

“The feminists are here”

The fact that this March 8th was going to surpass all our expectations was clear when we looked back on the weeks that preceded it. No one, however, seemed capable of anticipating the scale of the mobilization that we finally witnessed. Fortunately, the wave swept over us all.
Beginning on November 7th, 2015, there have been more and more analyses of the women's movement in Spain. In the international context marked by the rise of the far right and the reflux of social mobilization, many people have sought to interpret the why and the how of a movement that is capable of drawing in more and more young women, getting them to mobilize in the streets and to question the traditional logics of struggle and conflict. In addition, the feminist movement seems to possess a global dimension and a strategic horizon, building itself as an expression of generalized contestation of the capitalist system. With time it will be possible to grasp to what extent this potential will develop. For the moment, here are some elements of analysis to try and arrive at a collective understanding of what has happened this week.

Towards the women's international strike on March 8th

“The socialism that we fight for has to do with how we understand and develop our political activity. It also has to do with the development of women's concrete struggles in defence of their immediate interests, the development of feminist consciousness among women and society as a whole. The feminist movement is the engine and the subject of change in the situation of women.... All this has clear implications for the party, as part of the revolutionary vanguard; because of its capacity to unify the demands expressed by the different movements in its global project of social transformation, it has the historical responsibility to place in its work, program and strategy, the historical perspective of the liberation of women”". On being revolutionaries one hundred years after the Russian Revolution

The 34th International Youth Camp in political solidarity with the Fourth International took place in Otranto, Italy in the last week of July. The camp, under a banner proclaiming "Revolution Addicted - 1917-2017", was opened by a rally with speakers from Italy welcoming the participants and explaining the political goals of the camp. The rally concluded with this contribution from a leading young woman comrade from the Anticapitalistas delegation of the Spanish state.
