The outcome of the Senate vote is now known : 31 votes for decriminalization, 38 against. However the breadth and depth of the mobilization as indicated by this call show that victory will be achieved in the short term.

Ni Una Menos (“Not One Less”) is the common name of unitary feminist mobilizations against violence against women, first in Argentina (June 3, 2015 and 2016) then in other countries, such as Uruguay (2015), the Spanish State (2015), Chile and Peru (2016). Unitary collectives with this name have been created in several countries. This is the call of the Argentine collective to the general strike organized by the Union centres against the policy of the government Macri, published by the daily newspaper Pagina 12.

Banning abortion is violence against women

This statement by Ni Una Menos (not one woman less) was issued on 4 June on the occasion of major demonstrations in Argentina calling for a liberalization of the law on abortion ahead of the debate scheduled to open on 13 June. On 14 June 2018 the Chamber of Deputies voted by a narrow margin to legalize abortion in the first fourteen weeks of pregnancy. This great victory is the result of years of mobilization by women in Argentina. It has to be confirmed by a vote in the Senate and approval by the president. Last October 19, the call for a women's strike to protest the femicide of sixteen year old LucÃa Pérez, who was stabbed to death, connected male violence with forms of labor, economic, social, and territorial violence and precarization, and denounced them as a new “pedagogy of cruelty” on women's bodies (in a scene with undeniable colonial echoes).
