As I watched the coronavirus pandemic spread globally and the resulting global economic crisis my only thoughts were that Trump would run his re-election campaign based on divide and rule and trying to create a white-backlash, writes Susan Pashkoff. It was an obvious deduction and I claim no powers of divination (think of that as a good thing as I often sit postulating what is the worst thing that can happen while praying to non-existent gods that hopefully I am wrong).

Make Black Lives Matter

In the middle of a pandemic, with the global economy crashing and a US Presidential election in the offing, George Floyd's murder by police sparked protests across the globe. The movement is led by Black Americans and unites in solidarity people of many ethnicities, colours, and religions who have had enough of police brutality, and police murders of Black Americans.

Women's labour and C-19

Sometimes a significant crisis enables us to see things that often remain hidden or ignored in our everyday lives. Not that women needed to be reminded as they have lived with the situation for all of their lives; however, we are witnessing how essential are the traditional roles of women in the societies in which we live and this is the case irrespective of how developed the capitalist economic system is, or isn't. The separation between paid and unpaid labour in the home has been laid bare and even more so the societal (and ruling class) perception of the value of that labour has been revealed.

Dangerous times in the USA

This has been a rather impressive week [13-19 April] even for Donald Trump. Whenever you think that he has reached the nadir of his Presidency, he always manages to continue the downward trend; it is like a sink-hole that appears in the middle of an area that simply sucks everything in its path downwards.

It's Election Time in Britain – is it the Brexit Election? Not really …

The British General Election campaign is off to a flying start. The election formally began with the dissolution of Parliament on the 6th of November and will be concluded on the 12th of December 2019. Needless to say, the 5 week campaign period as compared to the US is rather short (and much less expensive).
