This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the first Land Day – the annual memorial and protest day of Palestinian citizens of Israel. On 30 March 1976 Israeli police and border guards shot dead six Palestinian citizens and wounded hundreds more.

I am so sad to learn of the death of my dear friend Tikva Honig-Parnass. Tikva was a fearless socialist, a committed feminist, and one of the most consistent and principled anti-Zionists I have ever known. I was privileged to work with her during the first Palestinian Intifada, when she was acting director of the Alternative Information Centre in Jerusalem, and I was editor of the centre's monthly English-language journal News From Within.

Since Jeremy Corbyn was elected as leader of the British Labour Party in August 2015 there has been an unending stream of attacks on him from a combination of the governing Conservative party, the main stream media and the right within the Labour Party itself on almost every imaginable subject. In the run up to extensive elections in Britain on May 5 these attacks focused on the question of supposed antisemitism inside the Labour Party – the strong implication being that such a development was a consequence of Corbyn's election.

Plan A had been simply to allow Israel to hold on to the territories it occupied in 1967. Following the first Intifada, it became clear that this approach was not viable, and a new plan “B” was adopted.
